If you're responsible for one of the hundreds of entries we received for the Commercial Interior Design Awards 2021 then, congratulations, you deserve a break, too. We were absolutely amazed by both the standard and volume of entries, off the back of a challenging and transformative year for the interior design industry. Nobody knows the power of a CID Award better than our winners. Our cover star this month, Nicola Fahy of Studio EM, last year's young designer of the year, tells us what the title means to her. Who will we be saying congratulations to at the awards ceremony this year? Shortlists are being announced across August on the homepage of the CID website but for winners, we'll have to wait until the evening of September 15. We hope to see you there. Remember, tables and sponsorship opportunities are still available. We already have an amazing line-up of beloved sponsors, both new and returning after the success of 2020. You can fi nd out more about them in this issue. Until next month, take care! Published by and © 2021 ITP MEDIA GROUP FZ-LLC. This enchanting glass lantern is both re- chargeable and portable; equipped with a handy soft-touch silicone handle in orange. While designed for external use, it is also ideal for indoor environments. THE DESIGN CONCEPT In Vitro Unplugged takes the classic concept of the lantern and transforms it into a modern high-tech product. Hidden inside the head is a light disc – an extremely fl at and circular LED source – whose light is captured and diffused by an empty capsule made from waterproof borosilicate glass to create a magical volume of light. Its timeless beauty and resistance to external agents make In Vitro Unplugged the ideal solution for both residential projects and other contract sectors, especially hospitality. The lamp features qualities that are rarely found in rechargeable outdoor products: a highly waterproof structure, discreet elegance and a soft and even light that will not disturb the onlooker or the natural environment. In Vitro Unplugged is an outdoor product that is both extremely decorative and highly technologically advanced. It maintains the timeless poetic feel of a mysterious and magical object yet boasts high-tech characteristics. TECHNICAL FEATURES The body of the lamp is made of die-cast and extruded aluminium that has been powder coated and treated with high-tech processes to provide maximum protection from atmospheric agents. The lamp features an optical touch sensor that acts as the On/Off switch and regulates the brightness between three levels of intensity: 100 percent, 50 percent and three percent. What's more, the lamp is charged using the provided 120cm micro USB-C cable and can provide up to six hours at maximum brightness. ELEGANT FINISHES In Vitro Unplugged is available in a selection of unusual, elegant fi nishes: black, white, anthracite, deep brown, forest green, pale green and terracotta. MEET THE BRAND Flos is a high-end Italian lighting company, whose products are part of permanent collections at some of the world's top art and design museums. www.fl os.com Philippe Starck: There is a paradox, a mystery in In Vitro Unplugged.
